Instant Pot Alfredo
Instant Pot Alfredo is a quick & easy dinner that you can make in your pressure cooker. Change it up using chicken, shrimp, spinach & more.
Like most people, we like easy dinner recipes in this house. Anything that can save me time is a win.
So when it comes to making our family favorites – converting them for the pressure cooker is where it’s at – like this Instant Pot Alfredo that is ready in less than 30 minutes, including the pressurizing and depressurizing time. Bonus – it only dirties one pot.
You really can’t beat that. A 30 minute dinner with very little prep. Just toss it in & go sort the mail, fold the towels – whatever. You don’t have to sit and mind this while it cooks – leaving more time for other things.
This is why I love my Instant Pot so much. It saves me so much time and keeps the clean up quick too.
Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo
Here are some commonly asked questions
Can I use uncooked chicken for this recipe?
Because we are cooking pasta – the cooking time is really short and wouldn’t cook the chicken thoroughly.
If you would like to use fresh chicken, you can cook it ahead of time, clean out the pot and shred the chicken. Then you can add what you need to this recipe. This recipe is great for leftovers or even some rotisserie chicken.
HOW DO YOU MAKE Instant Pot Alfredo?
- Combine the alfredo sauce, cooked chicken or Jumbo shrimp, and the minced garlic in the pot. Stir. (if using really small shrimp or spinach – those will get added after the cooking process)
- Add the water and stir.
- Place the broken noodles in the pot and press them down into the mixture to submerge. Do not stir.
- Close the lid and cook on manual pressure for 2-3 minutes – depending on how soft you like your noodles.
- Quick-release the pressure and remove the lid once the pin drops.
- If adding small shrimp or spinach, this is the time to do so. Then place the lid back on (don’t set it to cook again) for 5 minutes to steam to perfection.
- Remove the lid, add the cheese and stir well before serving.
What is the best way to store leftover alfredo?
Just keep it refrigerated in a shallow container for up to 3 days. As long as you don’t let it sit out at room temperature for too long, this should keep well when chilled.
Why use a shallow container to store the leftovers?
Well, when the container is shallow, the contents chill faster than if you were to use a large, deep container. Ideally, you don’t want it to take too long for the leftovers to get to their chilled/stored temperature.
As I mentioned, if the food remains above about 35 degrees for more than 1 hour after cooking, the bacteria starts to grow.
Instant Pot Shrimp Alfredo
To make Instant Pot Alfredo you will need…
- alfredo sauce – homemade or jarred
- cooked & shredded chicken OR jumbo shrimp *opt
- minced garlic
- water
- linguini
- baby spinach leaves – rinsed, dried, and roughly chopped **opt
- parmesan cheese
fettuccini alfredo instant pot
Can this recipe be doubled?
Because of the space constraints within the pot – I don’t recommmend doubling this recipe. In general, packing foods in too tightly in the pressure cooker results in food that is improperly cooked.
Can I use a different noodle for this recipe?
Yes – you can use angel hair pasta, spaghetti noodles or even bowties. Keep in mind that the thicker the noodle – the more cooking time. You may need to increase by 1 minute.
Is it necessary to use a specific type of pressure cooker?
No, not at all. I just happen to have an Instant Pot, but pressure cookers have become so popular over the last couple years that just about every big & small appliance company makes one. This will work with them all.
What is “natural pressure release”?
Often, an Instant Pot recipe would call for you to release all the pressure at the end of the timed pressure cycle. However, the cooking process stops when the pressure is released.
For recipes that call for a natural pressure release, you would refrain from releasing the pressure from the unit for a set amount of time. This allows for a little extra cooking time as the pressure inside naturally goes down.
At the end of the natural pressure release cycle, you would then use the valve to release the remaining pressure and stop the cooking process.
Products I love when making Instant Pot Alfredo…
This alfredo pasta recipe is SUPER EASY and delicious – and if you’re like me, then you maybe already have some of these items on hand OR maybe you have never made pasta in the pressure cooker before, & you might be a bit nervous – but you’re going to love it. I have made a list below of the things I absolutely can’t live without when it comes to making this dinner recipe.
- alfredo sauce
- minced garlic
- linguini
- parmesan cheese
- pressure cooker
- pasta spoon
- non-stick Instant Pot Insert
- measuring cups
