- 1 pound split peas
- water to fill a bowl with the peas
- 64 ounces chicken broth
- 1/4 cup of water
- 3-4 cups chopped ham
- 12 ounces evaporated milk
- 1 tbsp minced onions
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine peas & water filled to about 1" above the level of the peas. 
- Soak peas overnight. 
- The next day, transfer the peas, broth & water to a large slow cooker. 
- Add the ham, evaporated milk, onions, salt, pepper and garlic. 
- Cover & cook on high for approximately 4 hours stirring occasionally. 
- Once done, use an immersion blender to make the soup the consistency you desire. You can skip this step if you prefer your soup with more texture. 
- Garnish with salt & pepper upon serving.
