Ingredients

  • 1 pound split peas
  • water to fill a bowl with the peas
  • 64 ounces chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 3-4 cups chopped ham
  • 12 ounces evaporated milk
  • 1 tbsp minced onions
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine peas & water filled to about 1" above the level of the peas.
  • Soak peas overnight.
  • The next day, transfer the peas, broth & water to a large slow cooker.
  • Add the ham, evaporated milk, onions, salt, pepper and garlic.
  • Cover & cook on high for approximately 4 hours stirring occasionally.
  • Once done, use an immersion blender to make the soup the consistency you desire. You can skip this step if you prefer your soup with more texture.
  • Garnish with salt & pepper upon serving.
