Ingredients

  • 12 oz spaghetti noodles
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion small, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes 1 can
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ tsp oregano - dried
  • ¼ cup basil - chopped fresh

Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions

  • Cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Sauté the onion in the oil for 4–5 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes, sugar (if using), oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer uncovered for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in fresh basil and cooked pasta. Toss to coat.
  • Serve garnished with Parmesan cheese.
