- Combine the flour, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl, and mix well.
- Melt the butter and water together in 30-second increments. (this took about 90 seconds)
- Allow it to cool slightly.
- Slowly add the water/butter to the flour mixture and mix with your hands.
- Continue to slowly add and mix, slowly add and mix until all the liquid has been poured in.
- Once everything is well incorporated you will have a sticky dough.
- On a clean, dry surface, knead the dough for 3-5 mins.
- It will be elastic and smooth.
- Place the dough into a clean bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let rest for 15 mins.
- Divide the dough into even-sized portions.
- Take one piece of dough and use your hands to roll it into a ball.
- To do this, cup your hand over the dough and use a circular motion to roll the dough against the work surface. Apply light pressure as you roll to form a smooth ball.
- Continue until all balls are made and then cover them with a towel to make sure they don’t dry out while they rest.
- Lightly sprinkle with flour and using a rolling pin, roll out each ball of dough into a thin circle about 8 inches in diameter. Or you can use a tortilla press if you have one.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, place one tortilla at a time into the hot skillet and cook for about 30 seconds on each side, or until the tortilla is lightly browned and bubbly.
- Repeat with the remaining tortillas, stacking them on a plate as they are cooked and covering them with a towel to keep them warm.
