Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups half & half
  • peanut oil
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder & salt
  • Add half & half, stir until dough comes together & is no longer sticky (you should be able to handle it easily)
  • Knead dough on a well-floured surface until smooth (approx 5 min)
  • Allow dough to rest for another 5 min before moving forward (heat oil while you wait)
  • Fill deep, cast iron skillet with oil until bottom is covered by about 1-1/2"
  • Heat oil over medium heat to 375 degrees
  • Divide dough into 12-15 pieces & roll into balls, then press flat with hands
  • Use a rolling pin to continue to flatten into 1/4" thick disks
  • Fry dough in heated oil until golden brown on both sides
  • Remove & drain on paper towels
  • Sprinkle with parmesan cheese

Notes

A fun twist - if you use my 2-Ingredient Dough, or canned refrigerator biscuits - you can roll it out into flat dough rounds and cook them in the air fryer to make Elephant Ears. Cook at 350 for about 5 minutes or until golden brown. Add toppings when serving.
