Apple and Blueberry Crumble

This Apple and Blueberry Crumble is the perfect holiday dessert alternative to pie. Easy to make with sweet fruit and a buttery oat topping.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups apples peeled, cored and sliced (about 6-8 small-medium-sized apples)
  • 2 cups blueberries fresh or frozen
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour

Crumble Topping

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1-½ cups rolled oats
  • cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter - melted

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F.
  • Combine the sliced apples, blueberries, sugar, cinnamon, and flour in a bowl. Toss to combine and then transfer the mixture to a greased pie pan or dish.
  • Combine the flour, oats, and brown sugar in another bowl, then pour the melted butter over the top. Mix until a crumble topping forms.
  • Spoon the crumble topping over the fruit mixture.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes OR until the fruit is bubbling and the crumble topping is golden.

Notes

  • Use whatever type of berries you have in season at the time.
  • Using frozen blueberries works in this recipe too.
  • Bake the crumble in small individual (6-8) ramekins instead of one large pie dish.
  • Depending on how deep your dish is will determine how much crumble topping you are able to add. You may use it all or you may have some leftover.
Make Ahead:
This can be made up to the point of baking, and stored for 2 days in the fridge. Note that the peeled apples may brown during this waiting time.
Storage
Can also be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days after baking. Reheat in the microwave or eat at room temperature.
