Strawberry Simple Syrup

Strawberry simple syrup is a sweet liquid made by dissolving sugar in strawberry-infused water. It is commonly used as a flavoring agent in various beverages and desserts. The syrup is versatile and can add a delightful strawberry flavor to cocktails, lemonades, iced teas, sodas, and even drizzled over desserts like pancakes, waffles, or ice cream.

Equipment

  • small saucepan
  • strainer

Ingredients

  • 3 cups strawberries - fresh, sliced - should measure 3 cups when sliced
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Combine the strawberries, water, and sugar in a saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar has dissolved.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes.
  • Strain the syrup mixture to remove any pieces of the strawberries. Be sure to strain over a small bowl or dish.
  • You can let the syrup cool before using it or use it right away. It can also be stored in a bottle or jar in the fridge for up to 2 months.

Notes

  • The fridge is normally how I store this strawberry syrup because it lasts a long time that way. However, you can pour it into a covered ice cube tray and freeze it for up to 3 months.
  • Be sure to not include the stems with your strawberries. It can add a bitter taste that’s not tasty at all.
  • Frozen strawberries, thawed, are fine to use, they just might not have as much flavor as fresh.
  • Keep an eye on your simmering pot. Every stove is different, so watch to make sure you don’t burn your syrup. If 30 minutes is too long for your stove, that’s ok, just remove it early.
  • Don’t press too hard on your strawberries when straining the syrup. This can cause bits of fruit and such to push through the strainer into the finished product. We don’t want that.
  • Simple syrup is not supposed to be thick like pancake syrup. It will be thinner, which is perfect.
