Pear Butter Recipe

5 pounds Bartlett pears ½ cup brown sugar 1 tablespoon cinnamon ground ¼ teaspoon nutmeg ground 1 large strip orange peel
Wash, core, and slice the pears.
Place the pears into the slow cooker.
Add the sugar and spices. Toss the pears to coat.
Add the orange peel on top.
Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for 6 to 8 hours.
Remove the orange peel and purée the pears with an immersion blender or transfer the pears to a blender and purée well.
Place the pear butter into clean jars and seal with lids.
Refrigerate until cooled.
Serve on bread, with crackers, or as a fruit dip.
Pear butter will last in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
To make the pear butter last longer, freeze the pear butter in jars or zip-top freezer bags.
Pear butter can also be canned.
Use pear butter as a substitute for applesauce in any recipe.
