Prep Time 1 hour
Cook Time 10 minutes
Servings 12 sticks

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko or Italian breadcrumbs— or a combination of the two!
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 6 pieces of string mozzarella sticks

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a small mixing bowl, beat the egg with a small splash of water (about 1-2 tablespoons).
  • In another small mixing bowl, combine the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, breadcrumbs, and mix together well.
  • Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks in half - to make 12 sticks.
  • Dip each mozzarella stick into the flour, followed by the beaten egg mixture, and then coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Then, dip the mozzarella sticks back into the egg and into the breadcrumb mixture again.
  • Place each one on the lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  • Repeat the dipping steps and freezing step one more time. Be sure to preheat the air fryer to 400F at this step.
  • Spray the inside of the basket or tray with a light coating of oil, place the coated sticks in the fryer and cook the mozzarella sticks until golden brown- - about 10 minutes.
  • Remove from the fryer and serve immediately.

Notes

If desired, dip the sticks in marinara or ranch.
You must double coat the mozzarella sticks— a single coating does not work! Trust me!
This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled— just make sure not to crowd the air fryer basket.
The mozzarella sticks can be kept warm in a 250F oven if needed.
