Ingredients

For the Cinnamon Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 cinnamon sticks

For the Cocktail

  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 3/4 ounce cinnamon syrup
  • 1/2 ounce St. Germain Elderflower liquor optional but encouraged
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • 1/3 cup ginger beer or to taste
  • Slice of lime and cinnamon stick to garnish optional

Instructions

Make the Cinnamon Syrup

  • Combine the water, brown sugar, and cinnamon sticks in a small saucepan over high heat. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar has fully dissolved— about 3-5 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat and set aside to steep for about 30 minutes.
  • Remove the cinnamon sticks and carefully transfer the syrup to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

To Make the Cocktail

  • In the bottom of a copper mule mug, stir together the vodka, cinnamon syrup, St. Ger-main, and lime juice.
  • Fill the glass with ice and then top with ginger beer.
  • Garnish with a slice of lime and cinnamon stick. Serve immediately.

Notes

Light or dark brown sugar will work in this recipe.
