Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1-1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • *Oil for frying amt depends on your skillet size I used peanut oil

Coating

  • 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1-1/2 tbsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Combine coating ingredients in a medium bowl - stir together & set aside
  • Add dry funnel cake ingredients into large bowl
  • Add in eggs, milk & vanilla & whisk until fully combined & there will be very little lumps
  • Place your metal ring in a large skillet & add about 1/2 inch oil & heat to 350 degrees - watching closely
  • Transfer batter into the funnel
  • Once oil has reached frying temperature - pour batter into funnel cake pattern within the ring - crisscrossing to fill the holes
  • Allow to fry 30 seconds or until golden brown - flip & cook the other side for another 20-30 seconds
  • *Note- keep watch of your oil temp as this can fluctuate.
  • Once both sides are done cooking use tongs to remove & place immediately in cinnamon & sugar mixture - toss to coat & then transfer to drying rack to cool slightly
  • Continue with remaining batter
  • Use a little raspberry jam mixed with a tiny bit of water stirred together to make a sauce for dipping

Notes

A fun twist - if you use my 2-Ingredient Dough, you can roll it out into strips and make funnel cake in the air fryer. Cook at 375 for about 5 minutes or until golden brown.
