Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak thinly sliced - (450g)
  • 2 tablespoons black beans minced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 green bell pepper seeded and sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper seeded and sliced
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar optional
  • ½ cup beef broth 120ml
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Green onions, chopped, for garnish

    Cooked white rice, for serving

      Instructions

      • Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain. This ensures tenderness in the final dish.
      • In a small bowl, combine the minced black beans, minced garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Mix well and set aside.
      • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the sliced beef to the hot oil and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until it is no longer pink. Remove the beef from the wok and set it aside.
      • In the same wok, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced green and red bell peppers and the onion. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes or until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
      • Return the cooked beef to the wok with the vegetables.
      • Pour the prepared black bean sauce over the beef and vegetables in the wok.
      • Stir the cornstarch into the beef broth. Pour in the beef broth to the wok. Stir the mixture well.
      • Cook for another minute or until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
      • Garnish the dish with chopped green onions. Serve the beef with black bean sauce hot over steamed rice.
