Nutella Christmas Tree

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry - frozen, but semi-thawed
  • cup Nutella
  • 1 egg
  • Splash of water
  • ¼ cup cinnamon/sugar mixture - optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • Position both pieces of puff pastry on top of one another on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Trim the edges to form a Christmas tree shape from the square.
  • Remove the top layer and spread the Nutella onto the bottom layer. Place the other sheet back on top.
  • Use a knife to cut 1” strips up each side of the dough to make the tree branches.
  • Take the end of each strip and twist it several times.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush the egg wash over the top of the pastry.
  • Sprinkle with the cinnamon/sugar mixture - if using.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Once baked, give it a dusting of confectioner’s sugar or use more cinnamon/sugar.
