Sour Cream Cookies

These soft and pillowy frosted Sour Cream Cookies are just like grandma used to make. Simple, easy and there's no chill time required. Plus, you can decorate them for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup butter - room temperature, 1 stick - unsalted
  • 4 eggs
  • cup sour cream - room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp table salt
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled

Frosting of choice - I like my traditional buttercream

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a few baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
    • Combine the sugar and butter in the mixer bowl. Beat well until creamy.
    • Add the eggs, sour cream, and vanilla - beating until smooth.
    • Slowly stir in the baking powder, salt, and baking soda just until combined.
    • Then slowly mix in the flour just until it is fully incorporated. The dough will be quite soft - that’s fine.
    • Drop heaping tablespoonfuls of the dough out onto the prepared baking sheets - spacing the cookies about 2 inches apart to allow for spread.
    • Bake for 10-12 minutes. The edges will be golden and the center should be set.
    • Remove and allow to cool to room temperature before adding the frosting.
    • Spread frosting on the tops of the cookies and store them in a single layer. If you use buttercream frosting, you will need to keep them refrigerated.

    Notes

    If you use a shortening-based frosting, these can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for several days.
