Hmmm – that’s strange. The only thing I can think of is that maybe it was the placement in the oven. Were they baked on the center rack? As far as the salt – I would probably give them a little mist of water (like from a food-grade spray bottle) and then sprinkle more on.

Gina, these were so easy to make and tasted good. However, our pretzel bites didn’t brown on the top. They browned on the bottom and didn’t taste quite done (still a little doughy) so we turned them all over but then the salt all fell off. Any suggestions?

This recipe was easy-to-make and turned out delicious! I would highly recommend it, especially for families on a budget!

I’m sorry to hear that – can you tell me if the yeast proofed, if the dough had risen, how you measured your flour and if you used the egg wash and salt, and if you made any changes to the recipe? Those are all factors that would alter the end result.

In reply to Leigh Matthews. As with anything, they are best when fresh. They should stay on the softer side if used by the next day- but that will also depend on the heat & humidity levels where you live.
