In reply to Heidi. Hi Heidi. I think you could probably just put the broth & the meat in the pot with the other ingredients. I suppose you could do it on the stove but I think you would then need to put the peas in the blender because they won't break down as much with the shorter cook time. I would try it in the crock pot with the broth & peas & then add the hock/meat later in the cooking process. Please let me know how you like it. :)

I keep putting the ham hock in the freezer and then forgetting about it! I have one in the freezer right now. I can't wait to try this. I already boiled the ham hock, and stored it with the broth. Does that mean it's too late to put it in the crock pot? Should I do it on the stove instead? I’m so glad you linked this up at One Creative Weekend! I love it! Hope your weekend is fantastic. I make my split pea soup in my crock pot too! Just minus the ham hock (-: I also throw in a diced up yam and carrots which disappear when I puree it all up!
