It could be a number of things. I have not made this particular recipe in many years. But I think that it is either the humidity where you live OR it could be the condensation inside the crockpot. You can place a paper towel between the lid and the pot while it is cooking towards the end of the cooking process - this can help with absorbing the moisture so the bread doesn't.

I made this last night. It tastes really good, but, mine didn't get the hard(er) crust you mention in step 10 of the recipe. I cooked it my crockpot for about 2 hours but even though the bread was done, my crust was still very soft. Any guess as to why this happened ?

Is there an ideal number of rolls to divide this recipe into? Looking forward to trying it, but it'll be my first attempt at making bread in my crock pot, so I'm a little unsure of the specifics. Also, if one doesn't have packets of instant coffee, but a bigger container, what is the measurement?
