In reply to Julie. I'm sorry to hear that Julie. Were you scooping your flour (which compacts it & adds more to the measuring cup) or did you spoon into the measuring cup & level off? It's important to do the latter so you aren't inadvertently adding more flour than called for, which would make these more dry than normal.

In reply to Terrie Guillou. I had the same question. The dough was extremely stiff and after baking and cooling, the bars came out of the pan in crumbles :(

In reply to Terrie Guillou. Hi Terrie, I know it seems odd to not have eggs, but it's a classic shortbread recipe. It is a little more dry than you would expect with a cookie bar - but the butter does all the magic.
