Just made the cookie dough, oh my goodness I know you shouldn’t taste it but these are perfect. Going to bake soon and I know they will be just what I’ve been craving, real molasses oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips! I used white, milk, and semi sweet cause that’s what I had! Thanks for recipe.

These disappear as soon as I make them—and I make double batches. I even have a neighbor who calls on a regular basis to see if I am making molasses cookies. Instead of using all butter, I use 1/2 shortening and 1/2 butter. I also leave out the walnuts and use raisins instead of the chocolate chocolate chips. It is now a toss up when I make cookies as to whether it’s this recipe or my chocolate chip cookies.

I just made these cookies. I used 1/4 c softened margarine and 1/4 c shortening; I also baked them for 8 minutes instead of 10. The first batch was almost gone by the time the next batch came out of the oven. Definitely a keeper!

Doing that will give them a different texture & yield a dryer cookie. They should bake the same though. Please let me know how it goes

I suppose you can, but the cookies will have a different texture & consistency & may look a bit different when they are done baking than what you see here.
