My grand daughter is just beginning her teaching career this year and she is really upset and dismayed that her school district is phasing out penmanhool districts’ship lessons. She and other teachers are trying to change this edict but so far they haven’t been successful.

Wow, being phased out? Cannot lie, it’s not the most practical way to write, but it’s weird thinking it’s going to die out!

Thank you Kim – I’m happy that we have the ability to choose to teach this to our kids. At least there will be some out there that will still know it. When they are adults it will be like driving a manual drive car- only a few people will know how to do it. But I feel it’s a still worth having.

I did not know cursive was being phased out! Not in this house. We will work on it. Penmanship will be a loss in a few years if everything goes digital. Something’s shouldn’t change. I will pin these! Looks like a bunch of good ideas linked here. Can’t wait to make my way through them!

Hi Gina! As a former teacher and current SAHM, this saddens me too. But your neighbors are absolutely correct…schools all over the country are giving up teaching penmanship. The thought is that everything is going digital, so teaching cursive is pointless. I think this is ridiculous. I agree with everything you say in this article. Thanks for sharing these printables! I will be teaching my children to write in cursive at home! Stopping by from Thrifty Thursday!
