The standard size box will do – nothing over-complicated. Both Betty Crocker and Pillsbury standard packages are 18.4 ounces and Duncan Hines is 18.3 ounces (with some being just 18 ounces). ANY of those will do just fine.

I just made these for the 4th the dough was very stiff and hard to mix i only had a family size brownie mix and was wondering what size of the brownie mix did you use
The cookies were still good and my grandkids loved them

I was worried when I finished mixing the batter because it was very clumpy, Not even all the brownie mix would mix into the ball of dough. We ended up finishing up mixing with our hands. I had to bake the cookies 16 minutes. All and all the cookies do taste pretty good and are festive
