For the most part the only beverages I drink are coffee & water. Sometimes I will have a cup of milk if the mood strikes me- but 99.9% of the time it’s one of those two beverages. But then there are the times when we stop & grab a quick bite & I need a beverage. My latest obsession is Sonic’s Cherry Limeade. I seriously can’t get enough of it. I find myself making up reasons why we should take the kids out for an ice cream just so I can get one.
So I was super happy when my friend – the fabulous Robyn posted this recipe for her own Cherry Limeade. I instantly printed it off & headed to the store. Well- as it so happens, our store didn’t have the ingredients I was looking for to create this yummy treat. There I stood- wandering the juice isle getting sadder by the minute. Then I got to the end where they keep the generic version of Crystal Lite. There it was- the add in packets in my favorite flavor- Cherry Limeade!!!!! I immediately grabbed several boxes. But I didn’t want to just put it in water. I needed it to taste as much like the Sonic version as possible so that I could satisfy my craving. So I had the hubs run down the other isle & get some diet 7-Up to go with it. I chose diet because since I normally drink water all day- I wasn’t looking to start adding a ton of calories in the form of one drink.
I whipped one together as soon as I got home & it was every bit as yummy as the original.
1 can Diet 7-Up = 0 calories
1 pkt Cherry Limeade drink mix in = 10 calories
2 maraschino cherries = 20 calories
Obviously if you want to save those 20 calories & omit the cherries- that is your call.
I tend to like the indulgent feel of having them & when it comes to sweets, I’m like a big kid.
