So many things happening this time of year. I know we all are capturing them so start marking these things off your list & sharing them here. We were able to get a few things marked off this week while my mom was here helping us set up the cabin. While it was busy with having her here, there was so much that I was able to do because I had her help while the hubs was dedicated to getting into the swing of things at the new job. His life is super busy when he leaves this house each day. His first week was full of meetings & all sorts of fun things- so I was so happy to not have these things to do alone with the kids. We had a great visit with my mom.
I am getting used to the much shorter days & lack of sunlight coming into the house. Quite a drastic change when one lives in the desert & then moves 1200 miles north. The sun sets at around 3:30- so about 2 hours earlier than before we moved. It also doesn’t rise until after 7AM. Plus-it’s also cloudy. I have far less light & so I am getting used to taking pictures in the house with these changes. Please excuse the noise as I had my ISO cranked to about 1600 & we were using regular lights. I will be working on finding my new niche & re-learning photography to accommodate these changes in our surroundings.
My mom bought the Gingerbread House kit. I had planned on using the graham crackers I had been holding onto for this exact occasion.
She had other ideas.
It started off like this…
Ended up a bit more over the top than this image here. It looks like a cavity waiting to happen.
It has so much frosting & candy attached to it now that it’s near collapse.
My mom has never been with us for the decorating of Christmas. So she really wanted to be here for decorating the tree. We set out one snowy day to pick one out. It was a lot of fun- I will share those images here soon. It was an adventure- 2 women & 3 kids out to pick a tree. I missed the brawn of the hubs when it came to getting the thing off the roof of the van & hauling it to the porch & getting it into it’s stand. The thing was sopping wet from the snow. I’m not complaining- it was quite awesome & I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
I decided to scrap all my old ornaments. Thanks to all of you that gave us some housewarming gift cards to Target- I picked up 150 new ornaments for the tree this year. YAHOO!! The oldest & the youngest managed to bust a couple- so we are now down to 148- boooooo. Whatever- I was bummed but really can’t do much about it. Not like it was a sentimental one or something like that.
We also let the kids hang the stockings while I was getting the mantle put together. I love how it all came out. More on that later too.
There is a firehouse tradition that says that every time you make it into the media you have to treat the boys to pie & ice cream. He (& I) were in the paper the other day when they published his badge pinning. So we owed the boys some treats. Well I wasn’t in the mood to make pie, so I asked the hubs if cookies would do. Since my mom had left me some royal icing, I really had no excuses to NOT make sugar cookies & actually decorate them. (More on that next week) It was good to get baking again.
I will be working on crossing a few more of these off the list this coming week.
Please do the same & come back here next Friday to share!
